RES 3000 and Workstation 4 Honored for Embedded Architecture

COLUMBIA, Md. -- MICROS Systems, Inc. MCRS, a leading provider of information technology solutions for the hospitality industry, has been honored with the Microsoft RAD Award for Hospitality POS for the MICROS RES 3000 operating on the new Workstation 4. "The hardware platform is not a PC, it's an embedded architecture," explained Ed Rothenberg, Vice President for Restaurant Development Products. "That means there are fewer moving parts, making it more reliable as well as easier and less costly to manufacture."

In addition to the lower initial purchase cost, restaurants will achieve savings in ongoing maintenance, both because of the system's reliability and because they can now make their own changes and perform most of the maintenance work themselves. "The restaurant is able to treat its POS like an appliance, not like a computer. Over a five-year period, the cost of ownership savings are projected to be 22%," Mr. Rothenberg added.

RES 3000 offers back-office restaurant management services in addition to its POS functionality. "We can push this solution into restaurants that previously might have thought it too expensive to have a fully-featured system, especially from a name-brand company like MICROS," concluded Rothenberg.
