Barcelona, |HOTUSA HOTELS consolidate its position as leader in the European independent hotel sector following the publication of the ranking, which is drawn up every year by the prestigious American journal, HOTELS MAGAZINE. Consequently, according to the information released (relating to the 2004 financial year), the Spanish chain, with 1,439 associates and an offer of over 118,000 rooms, would be in first position in terms of Spain, followed by Keytel, and would occupy second position in Europe and sixth in the world.

Only the British Supranational Hotels chain, with a portfolio of 1,692 hotels and 257,000 rooms, has more in terms of capacity and offer than Hotusa Hotels. To this effect, the Spanish organisation, which has added over 300 buildings to its network in recent months, would today be the European leader in terms of the number of hotels and would be the fifth consortium in the world with a portfolio of 1,755 associated buildings.

Without a doubt, Hotusa Hotels’ excellent positioning in this ranking lies in its proven capacity to adapt to the growing needs and demands of the market through the implementation of more and improved tools to satisfy the expectations of its customers and offer them the very best services. To do this, the company has established advanced yield and revenue management policies, selected the ideal distribution channels for its products and made significant investments in technology.

As regards future trends, the publication predicts a significant boom for consortia in the coming years, because, as is gleaned from the analyses made, independent hotels will see in them an effective way of marketing and positioning themselves against the large chains. Not in vain, on 31 December 2004, did the 25 leading independent hotel associations have a total of around 3,6000,000 rooms, 260,000 more than on the same date the previous year.

Similarly, and as key factors to achieve this preferential status, the study recommends “continuous reinvention” and technological innovation as top priority for these organisations. For this, and in order to expand their sphere of influence, it is felt that they should broaden their alliances in the Internet Environment and develop their relations with suppliers who currently see them as an impediment to direct contact with the hotels.
