Peter Bramich FHCIMA – Director and General Manager of the 36-bedroom Deans Place country hotel and restaurant in Alfriston, East Sussex – has been elected the 2006-7 President of the Hotel & Catering International Management Association (HCIMA), the professional body for managers and aspiring managers in the hospitality, tourism and leisure industry worldwide. Peter was elected 'HCIMA President Elect' in May 2005; and has now officially taken over the HCIMA Presidency from Robin Morden FHCIMA, Head of Sales Costing, Compass Group UK & Ireland.

Commenting on his election, Peter Bramich said: “I feel very privileged to be the President of the HCIMA at such an exciting and critical time for the Association. As President, my main aim will be to see through the necessary changes to take the HCIMA forward, resulting from the Association’s Strategic Review in 2005. I am keen to ensure we maintain the momentum, as well as continue to make the HCIMA a recognised and even more valued Association for the hospitality, tourism and leisure industry across the globe.

“The requirements of the profession lie at the heart of the HCIMA’s strategy. With a well established reputation – for example – as an Awarding body, the Association has a recognised heritage in providing professional examinations to meet industry needs. The HCIMA is currently developing a new framework of management qualifications for the profession, which is scheduled to be launched in the autumn. This exciting development will enable Association members and industry professionals to participate in a programme of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) that will build into qualifications that are ‘fit for purpose’ and meet the rigorous standards of excellence associated with the HCIMA.”

The new President has been a member of the HCIMA since 1964, qualifying at Birmingham College of Food and Domestic Arts. All through his career, Peter Bramich has taken a very active role with the Association, serving on Branch Committees for over 20 years. He is currently Chairman of the Association’s Hospitable Climates Advisory Council – Hospitable Climates is the highly acclaimed free-of-charge energy efficiency advisory programme, managed by the HCIMA on behalf of the Carbon Trust. Peter’s entire career has been spent in the hotel conference, exhibition and banqueting sector. He was Conference and Banqueting Manager in London at the Inn on the Park Hotel and the Inter-Continental Hyde Park. This was followed by an 18-year period with Metropole Hotels, where he ended up as General Manager of the Brighton Metropole for eight years. In 1997, Peter purchased the Deans Place Hotel in Alfriston, which has become a successful 36-bedroom conference and banqueting operation.
