ROCKFORD, IL | The Lexington Cliffbreakers Riverside Resort today pledged up to $10,000 to support Plan USA’s humanitarian efforts as a part of its “Serving and Giving” campaign.

The Lexington Cliffbreakers’s “Serving and Giving” campaign features the Lexington Dollar A Day program where guests can donate a dollar for each day of their stay, or to their bill at the Lexington Cliffbreakers world-class restaurant, historic Fauerbach Tap Room bar, or the Martini Lounge. In turn, 100% of the donation will go to Plan USA, one of the largest and oldest children’s charities in the world.

To kick-off its “Serving and Giving” campaign, the Lexington Cliffbreakers will match dollar-for-dollar the contributions of its guests, employees and friends during the month of February.

In addition, the hotel staff is actively sponsoring Munesu Bonde, a young boy in Zimbabwe.

“Munesu is a beautiful 10-year old boy who, in many ways, is not unlike other little boys in Rockford” said Janet Moretti, corporate manager for Plan USA. “He wants to play with his friends, learn new things at school and enjoy the love and support of his parents and two teenage brothers. However, he is different in that he does not have many of the basic requirements for a healthy life – fresh water is about a 1.5 miles from his home, his walk to school takes 45 minutes, and the nearest health-care facility is two hours away. The support of Lexington Cliffbreakers is making such an impact for this young boy and his family; you just wouldn’t believe the hope this provides.”

“We’re in the service business – it’s what we do everyday” said Michael Ellis, owner of the Lexington Cliffbreakers. “Our launching of our “Serving and Giving” campaign is merely an extension of our commitment to service – at the local and global level.”

“This campaign was such a no-brainer for us,” Ellis continued. “When Steve (Belmonte, CEO & President of Lexington Hotels) asked me to join him in partnering with Plan USA, I agreed even before he could finish with the details. It’s the right thing to do and we’re 100% on-board.”

According to Belmonte, “we’re so grateful to be working with Michael and his team to keep hope alive for the world’s neediest children. Michael and his team’s passion for service is demonstrated throughout their work.”

The Lexington Cliffbreakers has gone through a metamorphosis during the past 12 months. The restaurant today offers new seating options, a redesigned menu featuring culinary masterpieces, an award-winning wine list, and fantastic weekend food extravaganzas (Friday Seafood Extravaganza and Sunday Champaign Brunch). The hotel has been upgraded and improved with all new hotel management, new bedding and a renewed attention to detail.

“We really focus on the important stuff” said Kristen Mackey, Lexington Cliffbreakers’s general manager. “Our business is not that complicated: we prepare and sell great food, organize and throw great events (weddings, business meetings, special parties), and pamper guests in our gorgeous antique-laden hotel.”
