STERLING, VA | Swisscom (SWX: SCMN), a leading telecommunications company, enabled one of the largest collective experiments on online productivity and collaboration at the recent Office 2.0 conference held at the St. Regis Hotel in San Francisco. For the second consecutive year, Swisscom’s Professional Services Unit was chosen to build the wired / wireless network infrastructure that allowed innovative high-data online applications to run seamlessly at the conference. The solution allowed several hundred of the world’s foremost experts, thought leaders and customers using online applications to test and experience the latest online services to manage people’s professional and private lives.

“Seamless connectivity among all devices was once again imperative for our experiment – anything but a scalable, high-performance network would have turned our project into a complete failure,” said Ismael Ghalimi, the event’s producer and chief executive officer at Intalio, the leading vendor of open source BPM and SOA software.

“Thanks to Swisscom’s rock-solid network, we reached our event goals, namely to push the limits of mobile networking and to help incubate innovation and adoption of online applications for productivity and collaboration,” Ghalimi added. “For this purpose, Swisscom has once again proven to be a reliable partner.”

Nearly 600 online productivity and collaboration experts and social networking thought leaders attended this year, representing technology companies, Global 500 firms, governments and universities. To test the network, the group utilized a multitude of devices such as laptops, PDAs and iPhones, all requiring secure and reliable online network access.

Innovation, Collaboration and Productivity

Throughout the event, attendees used their mobile devices to look up the conference’s agenda, the biographies of speakers, and the map of the facility. Attendees were also in a position to exchange contact information with other attendees and exhibitors, schedule meetings with participants, and provide real-time feedback during sessions. User interactions effectively imitated a real business environment on a large scale – an environment characterized by increased mobility, greater usage of online applications and a trend towards remotely managed business projects and agendas.

“Despite its unique requirements, Office 2.0 reflects a broad trend in the Corporate meeting industry towards more bandwidth, more collaborative applications, social media and more customized meeting scenarios,” said Michael Lovett, vice president, Swisscom’s Professional Services Unit. “These trends themselves aren’t new – what’s new is the number of devices, players, user options and hence, applications that need to be accommodated in a given network. I am proud to say that Swisscom offers its corporate clients industry-leading skills and expertise in engineering and managing their integrated networks, be they temporary or permanent in purpose.”

Swisscom specializes in consulting, and providing technical and logistical services for clients in the hospitality and meeting industries requiring high-performance video, voice and data networks. For Office 2.0, Swisscom applied its tried-and-tested event planning and delivery methodology that spans from a consultative examination of the client’s event objectives to the engineering, implementation and management of all network components.
