Laureate International Universities

BALTIMORE | Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School (Pty Ltd), owners of Blue Mountains Hotel School and the Australian International Hotel School, has joined the Laureate International Universities network. Laureate now has the most extensive network of international hospitality schools in the world.

Founded in 1991 in Leura, Australia, Blue Mountains Hotel School (BMHS) is widely recognized for hospitality and tourism management education. Over 90 percent of graduates are hired by leading hospitality companies, including Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Marriott Corporation, and InterContinental Hotel Group. More than 500 students attend BMHS, which is accredited by the New South Wales Higher Education Directorate, and by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR).

The Australian International Hotel School (AIHS) was founded in 1995 in Canberra, Australia, in affiliation with the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University in the United States. AIHS is accredited by the Australia Capital Territory Accreditation and Registration Council and by DEEWR. More than 100 students attend AIHS.

Both institutions’ programs are endorsed by The University of Queensland, their strategic partner and one of Australia’s leading research universities.

“With the addition of these institutions, we have created a renowned international network of accredited, degree-granting hotel management schools,” said Douglas L. Becker, chief executive officer of Laureate Education. “Laureate International Universities students from Glion Institute of Higher Education in Switzerland, Les Roches International School of Hotel Management in Switzerland, Les Roches Marbella in Spain, Les Roches Jin Jiang International Hotel Management College in China, and Kendall College in Chicago, can now also study in Australia.”

“We are pleased that both of our schools are going to be in such good hands,” said Max Player, one of the former owners of Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School (Pty Ltd).

“This is an exciting and very important event for students, alumni and employees,” said Guy Bentley, chief executive officer of BMHS and AIHS. “Our institutions and our students have a lot in common. Our graduates, like those from Glion and Les Roches, go on to become managers in five-star hotels. Direct access to the educational and professional resources of the global leader in hospitality education further expands career opportunities for our students around the world.”
