How to: keep hotels in business in the recession
Usually on Wednesdays, I ask you to share tips for getting better deals at hotels and the like. But every day I hear more talk of hotels in trouble in this time of multiple openings and gussied-up quarters at economy lodgings. Someone has to pay the tab -- and with lower occupancy, it isn't the guests. So, how do you think hotels could boost the bottom line in these very serious financial times? Some say with lower rates, but others say that didn't work for the industry after 9/11, that it took years for hotels to recover. Others say with clever promotions, and are we ever seeing those!!! And still others counsel relying on repeat guests and treating them even better. What do you say? How can hotels goose business in hard times?
