Students learn about information technologies in the hospitality industry through job shadowing
The hospitality industry might not be the first business that comes to mind when thinking about information technology. But at a hotel such as the Hyatt Regency Newport Hotel & Spa, information technology is widely used throughout the business, from taking reservations to keeping track of which rooms have been cleaned. About 30 students from the William M. Davies Jr. Career & Technical High School in Lincoln got a firsthand look at the interface between hotel operations and technology during a job-shadowing session last week, during which students observed hotel employees on the job. The event was a partnership between the hotel, Junior Achievement of Rhode Island, the Tech Collective and The Rhode Island Hospitality Education Foundation.
