Many businesses afraid of being slammed by the media or politicians in the post-bailout world have canceled or scaled back corporate meetings and retreats to reduce costs and save face in the down economy. That’s taking a financial toll on travel agents, meeting planners and high-end resorts in traditionally popular markets such as Arizona. Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau Vice President Brent DeRaad said he knows of more than 80 local meetings and events that have been canceled.
