Singapore – Three hotels from Hilton Hotels Corporation (Hilton) have been named among the Best Employers in Asia, according to a study conducted by Hewitt Associates, a global human resources consulting and outsourcing company.

Hilton Kuala Lumpur was one of Hewitt’s Top Ten Best Employers in Malaysia 2009, while Millennium Hilton Bangkok and Conrad Bangkok were among the Top Ten Employers in Thailand. These hotels were shortlisted for consideration by an independent judging panel earlier this year, and were voted on by more than 17,000 employees participating in the study.

Commenting on these wins, Martin Rinck, President, Hilton Hotels Corporation - Asia Pacific said, "This is an outstanding achievement by our hotels, and reflects the strong commitment we have to promoting a positive work environment for our staff. In any industry, the human factor is critical to ensuring a great guest experience. We hire people for their positive attitude, initiative and drive, and not just their skill set.”

“Part of Hilton’s culture is to recognise when our team members go beyond their call of duty, and we reward their efforts by giving them new opportunities and challenges. We are fostering a team culture, where people want to develop their talents and we are committed to being an Employer of Choice in Asia Pacific,” Mr. Rinck continued.

Known for its unique work culture called Esprit, Hilton aims to value, motivate and develop team members and provide staff with lots of opportunities for cross exposure and career advancement across all its properties worldwide. Each hotel has also instituted a range of regular training and development programmes to encourage staff to fulfil their career aspirations.

“Human resource is our greatest asset, and the hotel’s strong focus on leadership and communication has clearly been proven to be a winning formula in today’s fast evolving business environment,” said Manfred Pieper, General Manager at Conrad Bangkok.

Thomas Hoeborn, General Manager at Millennium Hilton Bangkok added: “With a strong and motivated team, we will also be able to ensure that our guests have an unforgettable experience due to our excellent hospitality and attentive service.”

For Hilton Kuala Lumpur, this is the first time that the hotel has participated in the Hewitt study and won an award.

William Costley, General Manager of Hilton Kuala Lumpur said: “The award is testament to what we practise daily, where we shape the journey of our team members with personalised attention as understanding what drives employee behaviour is critical to achieving business success.”

Hewitt’s study also found that despite these challenging times, organisations in the Top Ten shared common qualities such as a focus on building long term organisational sustainability; senior management consistently demonstrating the organisation’s values in their behaviour and actions; and strong positive relationships between employees at all levels in the organisation.

The Hewitt Best Employers in Asia study examines people management practices in many of Asia’s leading organisations. In Malaysia, over 60 organisations registered to participate and the Hewitt Best Employers in Malaysia 2009 study received input from more than 13,000 employees. Hewitt’s Thailand study featured over 70 organisations, which were drawn from 13 industries and had more than 90,000 full-time employees.
