The Cornell-Nanyang Institute of Hospitality Management (CNI) is now accepting applications for the 2009 General Managers Program (GMP) in Singapore. When it comes to hospitality, the Cornell-Nanyang Institute of Hospitality Management combines the best practitioners around the globe with the most rigorous, cutting-edge research in the field. Offered for the fourth consecutive year in Singapore, the GMP is one of the cornerstone programs for the school. The GMP 2009 in Singapore will run from 20th to 30th of July.

Over the past three years, hospitality-industry professionals have come to Singapore from twenty-four countries to attend GMP. The GMP is taught by distinguished Cornell University and Nanyang Technological University faculty members, industry executives, and expert consultants with a proven track record of success.

Mr Andreas Kramer, Resident Manager of the Sila Evason Hideaway & Spa at Samui Thailand who participated in the 2007GMP, remarked that “The GMP is a breather from our ‘business as usual’ thinking in the hospitality industry, even for the most institutionalized hotelier. The multi-cultural environment offers a brain teaser, stimulating our thinking. The GMP paves the way for valuable future experiences within the industry and new hotelier friends for life.”

The GMP is designed for hotel General Managers, Resident Managers and Executive Assistant Managers of full service hotels. Participants, in this ten-day residential program, concentrate on strategic hospitality management issues, enhancing their skills, and work collaboratively to produce new solutions to the challenges they face.

Participants tackle strategic property-level issues and learn from a network of colleagues who bring a worldwide perspective to the table. The GMP is designed to mold decision-makers into strategic thinkers. Focus is directed to tackle hotel-management issues inside a collaborative work environment to expand the foundation of the participants’ knowledge, broaden their viewpoint, and produce new solutions to the challenges they face.

A 2008 GMP participant, Mr Phillip Lim, General Manager of the Marco Polo Hotel Gateway, Hong Kong gave his perspective on the course. "The GMP provided a world-class learning platform offering up-to-date management theories and practices in a stimulating environment of like-minded industry professionals. It was a great experience and a wonderful opportunity to learn and network with an elite class of hoteliers."
