Joins Exclusive List of BTN’s "Top of the Top 25s"
BirchStreet Systems, a leading provider of hospitality industry e-procurement and purchasing solutions, today announced that its CEO John F. Davis III has been recognized by Business Travel News (BTN) as one of the "Top of the Top 25s" most influential executives in the business travel industry. Selected six times since 1994 to BTN's annual Top 25 list, Davis joins an exclusive roster that includes travel industry visionaries such as Robert Crandall, Herb Kelleher and Elizabeth Dole.
In recognition of Davis, BTN noted, “The longtime president and CEO of Pegasus Systems, John F. Davis III dominated electronic hotel distribution in the 1990s. His company, launched in 1989 by major hotel companies as a switch to connect their inventory with global distribution systems, grew to become a reservation, commission processing and hotel marketing powerhouse. Davis further consolidated hotel distribution switch services in 2007 with the purchases of GuestClick and WizCom before departing Pegasus in 2008.” A pdf of the entire BTN Silver Anniversary "Top of the Top 25s" feature is available online at:
Davis has received numerous honors over the years, including being named to the Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals’ (HFTP) Hall of Fame; Lodging magazine’s “Top 75 Executives in the Hotel Industry”; Interactive Travel Report’s “Person of the Year in Interactive Travel”; Meeting News’ “25 Most Influential People in the Meetings Industry”; Travel Agent Magazine’s “People of the Year”; Computerworld’s “Agent of Change”; and Hotel Electronic Distribution Network Association’s (HEDNA) President’s Award of Excellence. Just last year he was honored with the Texas Christian University (TCU) 2008 Valuable Alumnus Award. Davis is also currently an Executive-in-Residence at TCU’s Neeley School of Business, is on TCU’s Board of Trustees, is a member of TCU’s Neeley School of Business International Board of Visitors, and is the Honorary Consulate for the Principality of Monaco.
Davis retired last year from Pegasus Solutions, Inc., and joined BirchStreet Systems, Inc., which is based in Newport Beach , California . Considered a long-time well-respected industry visionary, Davis has a history of entrepreneurial success creating “industry firsts.” In 1989, he launched the first hotel distribution switch technology that enabled hotels around the world to be booked via the global distribution systems (GDS), such as Sabre and Galileo, and ultimately Internet sites around the world. In 1992, he launched the industry’s first hotel commission clearing house for payments to travel agents. In 1996, he led the launch of the Web’s first hotel online booking service. Prior to these technology developments at Pegasus Solutions, in 1982, he co-founded the world’s first toll-free floral ordering company, which later became known as 1-800 Flowers.
