Rezidor

The Rezidor Hotel Group, one of the fastest growing hotel companies worldwide, further strengthens the portfolio in Africa: The group announces Park Inn Tete in Mozambique – the property featuring 116 rooms is scheduled to open on Q4 2010. Rezidor’s portfolio on the African continent now comprises close to 30 hotels and 6,855 rooms in operation and under development.

“This is our second hotel in Mozambique – in Q2 2010 we also will open the Radisson Blu Hotel, Maputo”, says Kurt Ritter, President & CEO of Rezidor. “Mozambique’s economy has made considerable strides in recent years, and we see a huge potential in this country.”

“We are thrilled to partner with Rezidor and their fast growing mid-market brand Park Inn. Our companies share a common vision that will make Park Inns the hotels of choice in the mid-market category in Mozambique in the future”, says Mhamud Charania of CR Holdings, owner of Park Inn Tete.

“We are very excited to sign the first Park Inn with CR Holdings, one of Mozambique’s leading real estate development groups focused on developing hospitality, commercial and residential complexes that promote both the tourism industry and support the business environment in Mozambique” adds Andrew McLachlan, Rezidor’s Vice President Business Development Africa and Indian Oceans Islands.

Tete is one of Africa’s most important mining areas and is located on the banks of the Zambezi River in Northwest Mozambique. Park Inn Tete will be one of the first internationally branded hotels in town. Besides 116 modern and colourful guest rooms, the new hotel will offer an all day restaurant, a lobby bar, a gym, and a lovely outdoor swimming pool and terrace. The 12 hectare development surrounding the building will include residential and retail areas. Tete has always been a regional hub – originally established as an important Swahili trading centre. When the Portuguese arrived in 1531, it became a centre for the ivory and gold trades. Since the cessation of the wars which have plagued Mozambique for much of the past few decades, mining-related investment has boomed. The area is known for considerable deposits of high-grade hard coking coal, used in iron and steel production. Numerous international operators from Europe, North America and Asia have established a presence in the city.

The Rezidor Hotel Group is one of the fastest growing hotel companies in the world. The group features a portfolio of close to 370 hotels in operation and under development with more than 78,300 rooms in 58 countries.

Rezidor operates the brands Radisson Blu Hotels & Resorts, Regent Hotels & Resorts, Park Inn and Country Inns & Suites in Europe, Middle East and Africa, along with the goldpoints plusSM loyalty programme for frequent hotel guests. Rezidor has signed a worldwide license agreement with the Italian fashion house Missoni, in order to develop and operate a lifestyle hotel brand of the same name: Hotel Missoni.
