Edmonton Tourism’s “Invite Friends and Family” Winners Receive a $500 West Edmonton Mall Shopping Spree
11 August 2009 -- Edmonton, Alberta -- When it comes to Edmonton, Alberta, the people who live there know it's a great place to liveand visit. Now Edmonton Tourism is encouraging people from the Greater Edmonton region to invite friends and family from outside the region to come and visit and experience the many charms of Edmonton... and win a $500 shopping spree in the world-famous West Edmonton Mall.
Entering is easy. Visitors choose an e-postcard from the Edmonton Tourism website (www.edmonton.com), personalize it, and email it to friends and family who live out of town. When they get it, they can enter to win... and if they win, remember that it's a win/win, which means you win too! "Who doesn't love shopping?" says Kramer.
If home isn't quite big enough for a weekend (or a week) with friends or relatives, their kids and their luggage, there are plenty of great hotels in Edmonton. Visitors can choose breathtaking views from downtown hotels overlooking the city's famed river valley. On the west end, there are 12 different theme rooms in the Fantasyland Hotel at West Edmonton Mall ... or there's the Mayfield Inn, home to Canada's number one dinner theatre. On the south side of Edmonton, there are a number of trendy boutique hotels. With many major hotel brands, boutique properties and motels, the city has more than 13,000 guest rooms to choose from.
While they're visiting, there's so much to keep them busy. They can go on a walking tour of the river valley (North America's largest urban park, 22 times larger than New York's Central Park). Book a day of golfing (because Edmonton and area boasts more than 70 golf courses). Catch a glimpse of free-roaming herds of bison, moose, elk and 250 species of birds at Elk Island National Park.
On any given day of the week, they can also find out why Edmonton is known as Festival City and a city noted for its live entertainment. The Edmonton Folk Music Festival (Aug. 6 – 9, 2009) has attracted major stars and is rated as one of the world's best by performers and fans. The Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival (August 13 – 23, 2009) is the second largest of its kind in the world, attracting 500,000 visitors each year to more than 1,000 theatrical performances. For fans of the silver screen, there's also the 23rd Annual Edmonton International Film Festival, September 25 – October 3, 2009.
On any given night, the city is brimming over with the hilarity and drama offered by more than 20 theatre companies. And there's no shortage of any kind of live music happening in many of the city's venues, be it a major concert in Rexall Place or an intimate folk, jazz or hip-hop performance in a club.
Edmonton's also great for sight-seeing and shopping. In historic and notably artsy Old Strathcona, there is no end to all the great people-watching opportunities... and fantastic shopping finds (Old Strathcona's Whyte Avenue was voted one of the top five shopping neighbourhoods in the country by the online magazine Pure Canada). The 124th Street area downtown, meanwhile, has the Gallery Walk, with eight distinctive art galleries in just a 12-block area. Both areas also offer some of the most unique shopping in the city.
"Invite Friends and Family" is a year-round program and the next two draw dates are August 31, 2009 and December 31, 2009.
