Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals' (HFTP®) 2009 Annual Convention & Tradeshow offers attendees a way to find cost-effective solutions to their current work challenges, stay informed on the hottest industry topics, expand their network, increase their professional value and become empowered. The convention's education program focuses on empowering attendees professionally to assure success in the workplace. In addition to three general sessions, the education schedule includes industry-specific concurrent sessions, along with several bonus educational opportunities. The 2009 Annual Convention & Tradeshow is September 16 – 19 at the Green Valley Ranch Resort in Las Vegas, Nev. HFTP's 2009 Annual Convention & Tradeshow

"The education program has a great variety of educational opportunities, allowing attendees more choices than simply the options offered in their preferred tracks," said Cheryl Brennan, CHAE, co-chair of HFTP's Education Advisory Council and controller at Bloomfield Hills Country Club. "The aim of the convention's education program is to provide attendees with the tools they need to put them a step above the mainstream. If this is the only education conference they can attend this year, we want to make sure they return to their jobs with a positive and professional frame of mind, and useful information ready to put into practice."

The three general sessions, presented each morning of the convention by experienced speakers, cover gaining a competitive advantage, maximizing your time and infusing humor into the work environment.

  • T. Scott Gross' presentation “Positively Outrageous Service” discusses how to capitalize on new and developing trends; bring out employee creativity when serving customers; hire, train and manage a team to serve outrageously; identify opportunities to serve outrageously; and be thankful for complaints and learn how to handle them.
  • Bob Losyk's presentation “How to Manage Your Time When You Wear Too Many Hats” explains how to say no to unimportant activities and projects, and yes to those that result in the greatest payoff.
  • Joel Zeff's presentation “The Strength of Laughter: Energizing your Spirit with Humor” explains how to focus on reducing stress, increase creativity and create a renewed passion for your job.

Along with the three general sessions, the convention has concurrent session tracks — club, hotel, general, technology and leadership unlimited — allowing attendees to customize their education to fit their needs. The concurrent education sessions cover topics like maximizing capital expenditures on a tight budget, marketing in a Web 2.0 world, saving money by going green, providing customer service in an organization and more.

Other educational opportunities include exhibitor tutorials, held on the tradeshow floor during tradeshow hours; a new bonus session track, which covers insight into Microsoft's Office Suite; and a behind the scenes tour of the resort, where knowledgeable guides lead tours through various departments of the resort and explains what goes on behind the scenes. Attendance for the special tour is extremely limited, so attendees should RSVP to [email protected] as soon as possible.
