Ariane Marine Streamlines Ticketing Operations at Hovertravel with Launch of “Q-Buster” Kiosks [inactive]
Ariane’s Q-Buster kiosks utilize a proprietary ticketing software application that was especially adapted for Hovertravel, in order to address their need to increase both the speed and efficiency of the on-site ticketing operation. With sailings just 15 minutes apart during the peak summer season at this popular tourist destination, Hovertravel’s on-site manual ticketing agents were previously under considerable pressure to keep up with demand, resulting in long lines, partially full craft for the 10-minute journey across the Solent on the 90-seat hovercraft vessels, and less personal service for those who required more information.
“With the introduction of our Q-Buster kiosks, we now offer a third point of sale and I believe this is a vital system for assisting in handling our peak demand. I'm delighted with the way Ariane has worked with us to tailor the machines for our specific needs and has created a fast and easy-to-use system for our customers,” stated Henry Game, managing director of Hovertravel Ltd.
The Q-Buster self-service kiosks are designed to streamline operations and directly improve customer service in two ways. For online reservations, they interface with Hovertravel’s online reservation system, which was introduced in May 2009. This allows passengers with existing web-based reservations to print their tickets at the kiosk by providing only the reservation number. In addition, walk-on passengers may purchase and print tickets directly at the kiosk for immediate boarding.
An additional benefit of the kiosk ticketing application is easing the workload of on-site staff. By boarding more passengers in less time, the Ariane Q-Busters are also expected to increase revenue by maximizing each vessel’s capacity.
Each Q-Buster kiosk includes a user-friendly touch screen, an industrial PC, a payment system and a printer specifically sourced for marine-based applications, with more robust operation and the ability to handle heavier weight paper that is required for this type of application.
“We are very pleased that we were able to effectively address the needs of Hovertravel and help them improve their operations,” says Vanessa Marchesseau, manager of Ariane Marine. “The kiosks provide a convenient alternative for busy travelers, and provide the potential for increased revenues and profits for the operator. It is definitely a win-win situation, and we hope to bring this technology to other ferry operators around the world, as its benefits are realized.”
