Salt Lake City, Utah-based Control4, a provider of easy-to-use and install automated guestroom solutions for new and existing hotels and resorts, is working with MTech, a leading provider of guest-response and workflow automation solutions for the worldwide hotel industry, to enhance its product and improve guest service for its hotel clients around the United States.

Control4® Suite Systems has been integrated with MTech’s HotSOS (pronounced “hot sauce”) in what Control4 officials call a door-to-drapes guestroom solution for anything from room lighting to temperature control to bellman’s requests, valet services and concierge services. “Virtually anything a guest needs is at his or her fingertips in real-time when Control4 Suite Systems interfaces with HotSOS,” said James R. Gist, Vice President for Global Hospitality at Control4.

“We welcome the relationship with MTech,” Gist said. “This technology integration takes hotel clients into a new era of guest service where each hotel room receives the treatment once reserved only for the Penthouse Suite, providing five-star comfort in systems of scale for hotels of all sizes. With HotSOS, Control4 Suite Systems is able to expedite guests’ requests in real-time, improving the guest experience and willingness to return to the property.”

Control4 automates the entire guestroom experience – a process that begins with entering a key into the guestroom door’s lockset. The system remembers guest preferences, from room temperature to drape settings and more. The guest can make special requests through the system at the guestroom television via the remote. HotSOS automates the completion of the tasks. In addition, if anything goes wrong within the guestroom, service orders are placed and dispatched through HotSOS in real-time.

“This is a perfect example of HotSOS taking one its clients over-the-top in providing guest satisfaction,” said Luis Segredo, MTech president. “Control4 Suite Systems begins its influence on the guest experience when the guest enters a key into the lockset. From there, the ‘smart room’ then tailors the room to the guest’s desires. HotSOS expedites requests and notes guest histories that allow a hotel to anticipate and implement specific room conditions the guest prefers before and during his or her stay.”

Inside the Smart Room

Control4 Suite Systems solutions provide a tool that allows a hotel to do many things. One significant thing is the conservation of energy within the room. For example, upon checkout the system automatically tells the room to go to “unoccupied” status and turns down the heating/cooling system, televisions, lights and any appliances. The Control4® system also allows guests to request special services with the click of a button. Guests can request service from the bellman’s desk, valet, golf club, front desk and more from a guestroom television in an attractive, easy-to-use, icon-based system.

Also of key importance is the scheduling and completion of housekeeping services. REX, another MTech solution, detects when the room is unoccupied and uses this information in prioritizing room-cleaning schedules.

“Today’s guests are more discerning and have a lot of lodging options from which to choose,” Segredo said. “Clean rooms, complimentary newspapers – these are no longer enough. Savvy hoteliers provide more. Guests want you to anticipate their needs and recognize them, and provide them fast. HotSOS does that and more by turning information into communication.”

Control4 works seamlessly with HotSOS via its Hospitality Dashboard, a Web-based application that is designed to check guests in and out and deliver specials services. This tool is used to manage guestrooms and alert technical systems to problems such as low-batteries at the lockset, or in remote control devices. It can be implemented on-site or from a remote monitoring location.

“The Control4® platform when used with HotSOS allows hoteliers to tap a guest-facing user interface in ways never seen before,” said Segredo, “It allows every guest to interface with their environment, make requests, and receive the kind of special attention that once was provided only to VIPs and celebrities. This guest self-service functionality saves the hotel labor and accelerates service-delivery to customers. Therefore, labor savings translates immediately into hotel profits.

“MTech is committed to making these strong partnerships to enhance our customers – and their customers – hotel experiences,” he added. “It’s a unique solution that is perfect for today’s demanding economy.”
