Sheraton Hotels & Resorts announced today the culmination of a $70 million renovation to the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel, Colorado’s largest hotel. Sheraton Denver’s extensive renovation is part of a $6 billion brand-wide global revitalization effort, which includes upgrading 100 hotels in the U.S., renovating 50,000 guest rooms and re-designing more than 100 new lobbies. To mark the celebration, Starwood CEO Frits van Paasschen will present a $5,000 contribution to Mayor John Hickenlooper to benefit Denver’s Road Home, whose mission is to end homelessness in the city.

“We are incredibly excited to showcase an entirely new guest experience through this comprehensive and exciting renovation of the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel,” said Mike Ehmann, General Manager for the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel. “This $70 million renovation, begun by our owners, Chartres Lodging Group, underscores our dedication to the Denver hospitality community. Furthermore, the donation to Denver’s Road Home reflects our commitment to those in need throughout the community.”

Located on the famous 16th Street Mall, just blocks from the recently expanded Colorado Convention Center, the Sheraton Denver boasts 1,231 guestrooms and suites and 133,000 square feet of meeting space, making it not only the state’s largest hotel, but also one of the largest Sheraton properties in the U.S. The hotel is part of a $500 million investment by the Sheraton brand to existing “big box” convention center properties and more than $1.5 billion in renovations in North America.

A key component of Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel’s renovation is a lobby redesign featuring the brand’s signature hotel offering: “Link@SheratonSM experienced with Microsoft®,” a unique lobby lounge that enables guests to stay connected using Windows-based computers that feature Microsoft Office, Bing, Microsoft’s new decision engine, Bing Maps, Internet access and Microsoft LifeCam webcams for emailing video postcards. The “Link@Sheraton” enables today’s travelers to stay connected with instant access to information and technology for work, leisure and social networking.

Adding to the social aspect of the new lobby design is a communal table at the room’s center that allows several groups of guests to work independently of one another within the same space, while game tables and oversized chairs encourage playful interaction or rest and relaxation. Guests are surrounded by a distinct ambiance created through new sensory elements, including a clean “open air” scent, music, lighting and botanical designs.

Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel’s distinctive new guest room experience reflects guests’ preferences for a flexible design. Each room features a 37” LCD flat panel television, oversized work desks and comfortable seating. The guest rooms also offer the signature Sheraton Sweet Sleeper bedding, which features a redesigned ensemble of all-white, 300 thread count pillowcases and sheets, and a new duvet.

Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel is also introducing a revolutionary new health and fitness program, “Sheraton Fitness, Programmed by Core Performance.” Created in partnership with Core Performance, a training and lifestyle brand built by the experts who train professional athletes in every major sport, the program helps travelers train and eat healthy while on the road, as well as refresh, recharge and refocus their minds and bodies. The comprehensive offering features a state-of-the-art gym experience, healthy dining options, video on demand workouts and online training.

The hotel’s dining options include 15/Fifty, a vibrant three-meal restaurant offering contemporary America cuisine in comfortable surroundings, Katie Mullen’s Irish Restaurant & Pub, the largest Irish dining experience in Colorado, and the new 16MIX Cocktail Lounge located on the 16th Street pedestrian mall.

The Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel, like all hotels within Starwood’s robust portfolio, is proud to offer the Starwood Preferred Guest® program, which made headlines when it launched in 1999 with a breakthrough policy of no blackout dates on Free Night Awards. SPG® offers members the ability to redeem awards at more resorts, more luxury properties, more European hotels and more golf properties than any other hotel program.
