The Young Hoteliers Summit (YHS) Event 2011

The Young Hoteliers Summit 2010, which took place on the 28th/29th January 2010, was an all around huge success for its participants, the organising team and industry professionals alike. Hospitality leaders such as Guy Crawford (CEO Jumeirah Group) Michael Levie (COO Citizen M) and David Cochrane (CEO Hospitality Industry Trust Scotland) were in attendance throughout the two day summit in order to witness and interact with the future leaders of the hospitality industry. The first of its kind, this hospitality summit was organised for the students by the students. This year, YHS 2010, brought together nine prestigious hotel schools with 40 representing delegates from around the world to solve a Creativity Challenge provided by the Jumeirah Group.

The culmination of the two day summit came with the teams presentations of their unique solutions. Despite exceptional presentations across the board the winning team’s innovative concept was “Customise your room”. On the 6th September these bright young minds, in recognition of their achievement, were flown to Dubai, courtesy of Expedia. Over the past 5 days they have had the opportunity to shadow a chief executive of their choice within the Jumeirah Group, had one to one career development counselling, guided tours and talks as well as some much needed time on the beach. A full synopsis of the trip will be available on the Career Club website ().

We are delighted to announce that the Young Hoteliers Summit 2011 will now take place on the 21st/22nd March 2011. One ethos of the project is to ensure it remains a dynamic reflection of the students and creates open channels of communication between leading hospitality schools and industry professionals. This will be continued at YHS 2011 by providing the representatives of the hospitality industry, students and professionals the opportunity to exchange knowledge and ideas, foster creativity and expand networks within an entirely mixed international environment.

The companies which are selected to participate and sponsor in the Young Hoteliers Summit, are chosen for their approach towards the development of young hospitality minds. As such it is with great honour and delight that we announce the Creativity Challenge Partner for YHS 2011 to be the Rezidor Hotel Group. There are still a few sponsorship positions available, please contact YHS 2011 team.

The Young Hoteliers Summit will take place on March 21st and 22nd of 2011 at the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne. Anouck Marmy, Laura Egger and Yasin Munshi, the YHS 2011 coordinating team, are looking forward to welcoming the next branch of Young Hoteliers and industry leaders at EHL for an original event that will mark the start of a new form of interaction and communication between hospitality students and the industry.

GENERAL INFORMATION

What is the Young Hoteliers Summit?

The Young Hoteliers Summit (YHS) was a project initially developed by the Career Club, a student-run organization at the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL). The first YHS was held on January 28th & 29th 2010 with the aim of broadening the communication between international hotel schools through team work and allowing direct contact with industry leaders.

The Young Hoteliers Summit features a competition amongst teams composed of members from different participating schools competing against each other to give solutions to a Creativity Challenge proposed by a relevant Industry Leader. In addition, enriching programs of presentations, panels and workshops are organized around the topics raised in the creativity challenge.
