Burnaby, BC --From local sport tournaments to international championships, Burnaby provides world-class athletic facilities to host sporting events such as hockey, track and field, lacrosse and more. The city has welcomed Burnaby sports from the provincial level such as the Annual Harry Jerome Track Classic to the international level including the 2009 World Police and Fire Games and 2007 FIFA U-20 Championships.

Home to 10 ice surfaces as well as baseball diamonds, basketball courts, tennis courts and more, the Vancouver suburb of Burnaby can accommodate sporting competitions of all sizes and activities. Many of the Burnaby sports complexes are multi-sport offering a variety of sport surfaces, training and medical facilities, retail outlets and eating options all in one close vicinity. Simon Fraser University campus features multiple gymnasiums and outdoor fields as well as a swimming pool and on-site dormitory style Burnaby accommodations in the summer.

Sport facilities in Burnaby continue to grow with the expansion of the Burnaby Multisport Centre of Excellence and the dredging of Burnaby Lake, projects scheduled to be completed in 2012 and March 2011 respectively. While Burnaby Lake will be able to meet international rowing standards with its 2000-metre course, the Burnaby Multisport Centre of Excellence will feature an indoor double gymnasium and a FIFA-standard artificial turf soccer field as well as training and rehabilitation facilities, custom dining options and an athletes' village.

For those athletes and organizers who prefer not to stay in an athletes' village or in dormitory-style rooms, Burnaby hotels offer a variety of accommodations to meet different budgets and styles.

For sport organizers looking to bring an upcoming event to Burnaby, Tourism Burnaby can help from the bid process and site inspections right through to securing accommodations and event promotion. Tourism Burnaby also offers grants to qualifying sports groups who book their event in Burnaby.
