Report from the 2nd China Hotel Expansion Summit | 23-24 June 2011

After the success of the previous summit in Sanya, China, the 2nd China Hotel Expansion Summit moved to Guilin, where luxury hotel & resort operators came together to share experiences on hotel management and network with experts of five-star hotel innovative solutions.

The event began with a warm welcoming speech from Mr. Huang Chan, Vice Chairman of Municipal Standing Committee, Guilin People's Municipal Government. His speech was shortly followed by Mr. Chen Qiang a key note speaker at the summit and Director of Economic Forecast Department from State Information Center. His speech was highly anticipated by the attendees and he spoke at length about the hospitality industry development and policies within China. The attendees found his presentation to be very informative; one attendee stated that, "It is a marvelous speech, we've learned a lot." His presentation also included a detailed forecast of China's hospitality industry which was backed up with exclusive supporting figures from the State Information Center.

Later on in day one, Mr. Wayne Zhu, Vice President of China Development from Minor Hotel gave a riveting presentation on the international small resort developments in China. He included case studies of the famous spa resort, Anantara Hotel, which really caught the attention of the attendees and they listened to him with great interest. The day came to a close with a speech from Mr. Cai Shuo, Vice President of China Development from Pan Pacific Hotels and Resorts who gave advice on how to develop high quality hotels. His vast experience within the hospitality industry allowed him to deliver an extremely information detailed presentation which was enlightening due to all attendees. His knowledgeable understanding of the market combined with his sophisticated speech delivery made his presentations one of the most enjoyable of the summit. A wide range of knowledge was involved! On day two, a panel discussion took place and the subject they discussed was green hotel development. Moderated by Lawrence Samuelson from MET International, the panel discussion was lively and included involvement from the attendees. The panel included guests from AECOM and Eco-Wiz Group, who at first were discussing the subject amongst one another but as the discussion got more animated, the audience became involved with the panel discussion by asking questions or contributing their own ideas. There were some interesting questions being asked such as, how to get hotel customers actively involved into the green program? How to build a green hotel without extra budget? Also new innovations were introduced at the summit from Siemens, they brought along their building technology, supporting systems for the hospitality industry and introduced a fire alarm system for hotels, which is a brand new technology only use in some of the top hotels. The system is functioning as a safe guard, protecting the hotel guests from fire accidents.

Further introductions came from Germany Company, HÜPPE Group who used the summit as a platform to introduce their equipment to the Chinese market. Their shower equipment is widely used in European top hotels and their motto is to make showering an easy and enjoyable experience for the clients. The French Company, Arc International introduced their fine and exquisite tableware to the Chinese hotels and the products attracted great attention from the attendees.
