Gran Melia

The Gran Meliá Colón Hotel, in the historic heart of Seville, has become a member of the prestigious organisation The Leading Hotels of the World, which represents the best and most exclusive hotels, resorts and spas in the world. This makes it the only luxury hotel in Seville to belong to this exclusive club.

To be admitted, the hotel underwent an intense auditing procedure, which finally certified the strict quality criteria and an absolute command of the art of hospitality, values that have always defined the Gran Meliá Colón. "Being a member of the Leading Hotels of the World means having a passion for service and at the same time being proud of our hotel's unique character", stated José Antonio Rubio, General Manager of the hotel.

Located in the heart of the Andalusian capital, the Gran Meliá Colón is only a five-minute walk from the city's main monuments and shopping areas. In these surroundings, the hotel stands out for its elegant architecture with its influences from the Bell Époque, its lobby with the impressive modernist dome and an interior décor that blends traditional luxury with contemporary touches such as furniture by Philippe Starck, Marcel Wanders and Edra. The hotel's individual character helped it to stand out in the tests performed by the organisation.

Most of the hotel's 189 rooms are outward looking with lovely views of the city centre: Calle Canalejas, the Iglesia de la Magdalena and Calle Cruz del Calvario. The hotel's interior design pays tribute to the cultural heritage of Seville, forming a close link with the city, one of the other characteristics that the organisation has pointed to in its assessment. For example, each floor of the hotel is devoted to a famous painter: Zurbarán, Valdés Leal, Murillo, the Seville School of the 17th century, Velázquez, El Greco and Goya, whose painting The Clothed Maja leads to the Penthouse Master Suite on the seventh floor.

To turn a stay at the hotel into a complete experience, a varied range of exclusive services are available to guests in the RedLevel area: check-in, check-out, private breakfast, all-day tea and coffee, and an open bar in the afternoon, among others. The RedLevel service also offers a range of pillows and aromatherapies, and provides Clarins amenities in each room.

The experience is topped off with the very finest cuisine. The restaurants El Burladero, El Tendido and The Majestic offer a taste of Andalusia through the best traditional cooking, with a few surprising modern touches. For example, Javier Rico, head chef at El Burladero, rediscovers old recipes for traditional Seville dishes, creating dishes with some of the region's best flavours. The touch of modernity comes from the cocktail menu at El Tendido.

Finally, the hotel also has different spaces for business meetings and social events. A planning team with Certified Meeting Professional credentials granted by the Convention Industry Council provides all the experience needed for any type of event, through the RedGlove Meeting&Events programme, exclusive to the brand.

"We are very proud for the Gran Meliá Colón Hotel to have recently joined the exclusive collection of The Leading Hotels of the World. Together with the Gran Meliá Fénix in Madrid, these are the brand's two hotels that form part of this organisation", comments Enrique Ortiz, Director of Gran Meliá Hotels & Resorts in Europe. "The values that define all Gran Meliá hotels connect perfectly with those of The Leading Hotels of the World: a demand for the very highest level of service that is expected from both brands, at the same time as ensuring travel experiences that are both authentic and enriching," he went on.
