The 2013 ISHC Pioneer Award was recently presented to Steve Rushmore, chairman and founder of the global hospitality consulting organization HVS, in Los Angeles at the Americas Lodging Investment Summit (ALIS), for his tremendous contributions to the hospitality industry.

Each year the International Society of Hospitality Consultants (ISHC) recognizes an industry leader for their outstanding contribution vision, achievement and/or improvement to the hospitality industry. ISHC Pioneer Award winners are selected based on three primary criteria: active involvement in the industry, contribution to the industry and personal/organizational attributes and qualities.

Rushmore founded HVS in 1980, and he continues to direct the worldwide operation of this firm, as well as the firm's ever--growing expansion and new product development. He has provided consulting services for more than 15,000 hotels throughout the world during his 40--year career and specializes in complex issues involving hotel feasibility, valuation, and financing. He was one of the creators of the Microtel concept and was instrumental in its initial public offering (IPO). Rushmore is a partner in HEI Hospitality, LLC, a hotel investment fund. Rushmore received a bachelor's degree from the Cornell Hotel School and a master of business administration degree from the University of Buffalo. He holds MAI and FRICS appraisal designations and is a CHA (certified hotel administrator).

In accepting the award Rushmore relayed a special “Thank you to the International Society of Hospitality Consultants for presenting me the Pioneer Award,” and noted “ISHC does so much to elevate the standards and expertise of hospitality consultants around the world and in turn, I congratulate you for the work you do as well.”

Prior ISHC Pioneer Award winners include Randall Smith, Jack Vaughn, Michael Leven, Jonathan Tisch, William Kimpton, Steve Wynn, Christel DeHaan, Barry Sternlicht, HP Rama, Bill Marriott, Jim Burba, Kathleen Taylor and Chip Conley.
