Meliá Hotels International has announced the signing of what will become its seventeenth hotel in Brazil, the new TRYP Itaboraí, with which the company will continue to strengthen its position in one of its priority markets for international growth.

The newly built hotel will open in 2015 in the centre of Itaboraí, a city in the state of Rio de Janeiro, in which the oil giant Petrobras is building one of the largest petrochemical plants in the country (Comperj). This enormous project has become an important driver for growth for the city and is expected to attract many businesses to the area together with significant investment and more than 200,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Meliá Hotels International aims to enhance its positioning in Brazil with its entry into one of the most dynamic cities in the country, and will do so with the TRYP by Wyndham brand which already has a long history in Brazil. The new facility will be operated under a management agreement and is located at Rua Vinte e Dois de Maio. It will have 272 rooms, a restaurant, pool bar, 3 meeting rooms, spa and fitness centre. The hotel is very close to new real estate developments in the city, including office parks, residential and commercial areas.

This will be the 17th hotel for Meliá Hotels International in Brazil with a total of almost 4,000 rooms. The company currently has 12 hotels open in Brasilia, Sao Paulo, Campinas and Angra dos Reis, and another 5 in the process of opening (including the new TRYP Itaboraí). In 2012, the company signed the new TRYP Belo Horizonte hotel, located in the Avenue Cristiano Machado 3044 (Belo Horizonte city). The hotel will open in 2014, featuring 151 rooms, restaurant, pool, fitness centre and 3 meeting rooms.

Gabriel Escarrer, Vice President and CEO of the company, has repeatedly mentioned Brazil as one of the most interesting countries for growth for Meliá Hotels International in Latin America, where it aims to continue to grow through signature products in both city and resort destinations.
