With just over three weeks until the first match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, hotel search website trivago.co.uk has analysed travel interest to Brazil during this period (12th June to 13th July). Searches increased by an average of 700 per cent during the World Cup period. The largest increase came from Belgium (1456 per cent), while interest from the UK increased by 555 per cent.

Denise Bartlett, Public Relations UK, comments: "While Brazil will enjoy a 700 per cent increase in travel interest during the World Cup, it is debatable whether this influx of foreign visitors will continue beyond the final match on the 13th July. With hotel searches only up by 4 per cent year-on-year outside the World Cup period, tourism in Brazil may struggle to benefit in the long term.

The rise in interest to Brazil from our Belgium platform was huge, with searches increasing by 1456 per cent compared to last year. Searches from the UK were slightly below average, at a 555 per cent increase. Travel interest from Italy was surprisingly low – searches only increased by 46 per cent year-on-year. Unsurprisingly, the vast majority of searches from trivago.co.uk are to Rio de Janeiro (63 per cent of searches). Rio will host the final on 13th July, among other matches. The second most popular destination for UK visitors is São Paulo, which will host England's second match against Uruguay on 19th June."
