The Cornell Institute for Hospitality Labor and Employment Relations (CIHLER) at the School of Hotel Administration (SHA) at Cornell University recently welcomed four new industry leaders to its advisory board. As advisory board members, they provide financial support to CIHLER and engage in the development of programming and research for the institute.

New advisory board members:

Danielle Hawkins '04 is a senior manager in Deloitte Consulting's Human Capital practice, focusing on clients in the hospitality, retail, and services sectors. She has over ten years of consulting experience, advising and leading clients through large-scale transformations with a focus on organizational, cultural, change-management, and talent implications. Hawkins works closely with senior executives to align and engage leaders and stakeholders, and has collaborated with many Fortune 500 organizations to prepare and equip their leaders to effectively lead projects and deliver results.

Kenneth Kahn '69 is president of LRP Publications, which produces print and online publications and conferences and trade shows specializing in K-12 education administration, federal employment law, and human resources. In 2013, Kahn received the Economic Development Leadership Award from the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County, Florida, for his work as co-chair of the Branding and Marketing Education Taskforce. He has also received Cornell University's Groat Alumni Award, the Northern Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce's Community Leader of the Year Award, and the Sun Sentinel Company's Excalibur Award. Kahn serves on a number of boards and committees.

Edward Mady is west coast USA regional director for Dorchester Collection and general manager of one of its properties, the Beverly Hills Hotel, having previously been general manager of Dorchester's New York Palace. Mady spent two decades with the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, serving most prominently as vice president and area general manager. He held leadership positions with Helmsley Hotels, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, and Fairmont Hotels and Resorts. Mady received the 2011 Hospitality Professional of the Year Award from the Food and Beverage Association and the 2009 Gold Plate Award for worldwide excellence in the hotel sector from the International Foodservice Manufacturers Association.

David Garland is in Epstein Becker Green's labor and employment practice, is chair of its labor and employment steering committee, and is on its board of directors. Garland defends employers in discrimination, wrongful discharge, and other employment-related litigation, and counsels clients on developing employee handbooks and policies and practices to avoid litigation. He frequently speaks and writes on employment law issues, and served on the staffs of U.S. senators Bob Dole and Alfonse D'Amato and as a special assistant for New Jersey governor Thomas Kean. In 2013, Garland was elected to the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers as a fellow. He was recommended by The Legal 500 United States and Employment Law Experts, and has been included in New Jersey Super Lawyers, The Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business, The American Lawyer, and Martindale-Hubbell's Top Rated Lawyers list.
