Aloft Hotel — which has been experimenting with robotic Bellhops in California and is tinkering with deploying them elsewhere — brought one to Detroit Tuesday. Think: R2D2, the Astromech droid in "Star Wars." The waist-high, cylinder-shaped machine dubbed Botlr — like butler — navigates on its own to bring toiletries and snacks to guests' rooms. It beeps. It reads your Tweets. It does a little dance to show appreciation — and, operators say, gets smarter with each delivery.
