EGHAM, UK – Triometric, the leading provider of real-time XML performance monitoring and business intelligence to the online travel industry shares an executive video interview with JacTravel talking about how their operation thrives with XML analytics

Hotel distribution is a complex business with an intricate web of connections linking hotel suppliers to hotel distributors which includes the Global Distribution Systems (GDS), wholesalers, hotel switches, online travel companies and metasearch engines. Selling travel is very competitive and hoteliers need to supplement their direct sales with a number of different third party channels in order to reach their target audiences across the globe. No one can afford to sit back and expect to be found. Building partnerships with those who have strong distribution networks is today's norm. This is where intermediaries such as accommodation wholesalers come in.

JacTravel is a rapidly growing and award winning B2B Hotel Distributor and one of Triometric's London-based customers. I recently had the opportunity to meet with them to find out how they use business intelligence derived from XML within their operations. I was especially keen to find out more about the practical benefits analytics brings to the daily lives of the business analysts and IT staff who use the system.

I say one customer, but I really mean two. I met with Richard Davis the IT Director at the JacTravel Group, the company that acquired one of our other UK customers, TotalStay, back in March 2015. Since then the two accommodation wholesalers with complementary inventories have embarked on ever closer integration. Today the enlarged group benefits from greater scale in the accommodation market, achieving an annual combined turnover in excess of £360 million and direct contractual relationships with over 14,000 independent and chain hotel partners in 800 cities globally.

Richard Davis is the ideal person in the organisation to talk about the benefits of working with the Triometric platform. He used to be the IT Director at TotalStay and was a key decision maker in TotalStay's selection to deploy the platform in their operations. Today he is the IT Director for the combined group with a detailed knowledge of how both companies have historically used Triometric and where it is being most effectively used today. As part of the enlarged company's integration of systems and processes to achieve efficiencies, Richard foresees Triometric continuing to be the analytics platform of choice playing a vital role in delivering key operational metrics and business intelligence.

For those not familiar with Triometric, the elevator pitch is that we work with B2B online travel suppliers (including intermediaries such as JacTravel, hotels and airlines) to help them in their distribution strategies. We do this with a real-time platform that monitors API performance and analyses the millions of request and response messages passing through the supply chain. This gives them 'google-analytics' style insights into their B2B search and booking data and helps them to optimise their performance and manage their inventories. This is in a nutshell what the JacTravel Group uses Triometric for – to make sure their web services environment runs smoothly at all times and manage its inventories in line with market demand. Richard describes working without Triometric like driving a car through rain without windscreen wipers! Suddenly all becomes clear. Success is all about having the right content and inventory available at the right time (avoiding timeouts) and for the right price. Triometric delivers those insights at the most granular level.

But don't take my word for it. In just four minutes Richard walks us through how JacTravel saves time and money through efficient operations and having timely data available. In this video he covers:

  • New Customer /Supplier on-boarding (swiftly and error-free).
  • Long-term capacity planning and financial budgeting (growing ahead of demand)
  • XML Comparison checking between different or revised APIs (so nothing gets lost)
  • Operational performance of their web services environment
  • Inventory management so their accommodation supply keeps up with customer demand
  • Data centre migration support

There is a lot of talk around about the power of business intelligence, especially for the travel industry where look to book ratios continue to soar. A million hits and a mountain of data as people browse the web for hotel rooms, flights, holidays and more. Exploring this treasure trove of data for the insights that drive profitable business decision is no mean task. XML data analytics and in particular XML search and booking analysis helps JacTravel dig deep and create order out of chaos. Search and booking data is the vital ingredient travel companies should be harnessing for success.
