Mövenpick Hotels and Resorts has some big plans for 2018. In fact, the company is planning to open 11 new properties spread throughout nine countries. This expansion will also mark Mövenpick's debut in five new countries as the company bolsters its global footprint while expanding its portfolio.

This marks yet another year of Mövenpick Hotels and Resorts gearing up for another period of significant portfolio expansion. The global hospitality firm currently operates 83 hotel properties, with locations in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

Mövenpick's Newest Countries

As noted above, Mövenpick will soon expand into five new countries, with those being Bangladesh, Iraq, Kenya, Malaysia and the Maldives. Meanwhile, its expansion plans for the coming year also stand to boost its current footprint in the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Tunisia, and Thailand.

What's perhaps most notable is that over a period of the next 10 months, Mövenpick will be planting new properties in several locations that experts describe as strategically notable, including two of Dubai's hottest districts, as well as in The Maldives.

Dubai, as those within the global hospitality space surely realize, is one of the most prestigious and fastest-growing tourism markets in the world, while opening a hotel in The Maldives will mark Mövenpick's first foray into the Indian Ocean.

Coming in the Next Few Months

Of Mövenpick's forthcoming destinations, three hotels are slated to open over the next few months. These properties include Mövenpick Hotel & Residences in Nairobi, Kenya; Mövenpick Asara Resort & Spa Hua Hin, which will be the brand's seventh total property located in Thailand; and Mövenpick Hotel du Lac Tunis, which will be its third location in the country of Tunisia.

The Kenya property is perhaps most telling of this group because it will be the company's first in East Africa. It will be a luxurious property with a five-star rating and ample room designed to host conferences.

The remaining eight properties that constitute this expansion effort will, of course, launch before the end of the year.

Looking Beyond for Mövenpick's Future

The future certainly seems to be bright for Mövenpick, which has a current pipeline of more than 40 properties. In addition to the growth seen in this wave, it also stands to continue spreading the reach of its hotels.

Plans for Mövenpick's future call for the company to enter several new markets over the coming years, including Muscat (Oman) and Ras Al Khaimah (United Arab Emirates) in the Middle East. There will also be expanded in Abidjan (Cote d'Ivorie), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), and Abuja (Nigeria) in Africa.

The overall effect, experts say, is likely to be a consolidated presence in countries that possess strong development potential.
