Chuck Schumer: Marriott should replace all passports if their numbers have been stolen
The fallout from Marriott's massive data breach could cost the company millions.
On Monday, Marriott MAR, -5.04% told MarketWatch that it would foot the bill for customers directly impacted by the hack to replace their passports.
The hotel chain said it would reimburse guests for the costs associated with getting a new passport, but only "if" the customer determines that actual fraud has, indeed, taken place.
But not everyone believes that gesture goes far enough. Chuck Schumer, the Democratic Senator from New York, said that Marriott should replace all passports for those who have had their passport numbers stolen.
"Marriott must personally and immediately notify customers under the greatest security risk and then foot the bill for those folks to acquire a new passport and number should they request it," he said.
