Meliá Hotels International and the IUF (International Union of Food, Agriculture, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers' Associations) signed an international agreement today to help prevent sexual harassment.

This new agreement is further progress in policies aimed at preventing sexual harassment to which the Company has been committed for decades, providing an international framework for the prevention and detection of sexual harassment and improving the protocols for taking action implemented by Meliá Hotels International in the countries in which it operates. Both Meliá and the IUF reiterated their firm commitment to diversity and inclusion as well as their concerns about safeguarding human dignity and rights.

Commitments and principles of the agreement

Based on a Meliá Hotels International policy of zero tolerance for sexual harassment, regardless of gender and sexual orientation, both Meliá and the UIF aim to prevent harassment by raising awareness while also ensuring all the necessary measures are taken against this type of violence.

The agreement will also become a benchmark document for all the countries in which Meliá Hotels International operates which do not have a branch of the IUF, forming an integral part of its commitment to equality and health and safety at work.

Given the importance of the matter and the need to provide support and generate confidence among people affected by sexual harassment, one of the main objectives is that all employees should be fully aware of the type of acts that are considered sexual harassment and the different channels Meliá provides so that they can be reported.

Meliá and the IUF believe that specific actions need to be taken to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace and have agreed to cooperate in the implementation of the commitments in the agreement and in a periodic assessment of the actions taken to ensure their effectiveness.
