A nationwide study by Travelodge has revealed that Britons who work away on business have HAPPIER relationships than those who don't.

In fact, the survey of 1500 British workers reveals as many as 40 percent of those who work away from home regularly, would describe their relationship as "extremely happy", compared to just 28 percent of couples who never go away on business.

For those who travel for work on a monthly basis, as many as 79 percent attributed their happy marriage to having time apart from each-other.

Over a third (34 percent) of Britons who work away, said it was nice to have a break from household chores when travelling, while 27 percent relish a good nights' sleep in a hotel.

As many as nine in ten said having some time apart from their partner made them realise how much they appreciated them, while 74 percent even claimed that working away made their relationship more passionate.

Nearly a fifth (19 percent) of working parents confessed they enjoyed the opportunity to get a rest from childcare duties when having to work away.

Despite a quarter (25 percent) of people claiming to miss each-other, 38 percent love filling in their partner on their latest business conquest and the latest work gossip when they return home.

Nearly three in ten (29 percent) of those who are working away will FaceTime their partner every night from their hotel room, while a further 20 percent will always buy their partner a gift from wherever they've been staying.

The study, by Travelodge, who welcomes 19 million customers annually across its 570 UK hotels also found an array of other benefits to working away, with 37 percent of those polled saying they enjoy the extra 'me-time' it brings.

Taking the time out to have a bath (37 percent), catching up on social media (16 percent) and enjoying a drink at the bar (31 percent) are some of the things businesspeople said they would never get a chance to do at home.

The research also revealed that more British women are travelling for business than ever before with 58 percent regularly taking business trips.

Interestingly, more than one in ten (11 percent) of women said they actively jump at the opportunity to work away.

Shakila Ahmed at Travelodge said: "Our research highlights, travel has become a big part of modern business. Nowadays we can potentially work anywhere thanks to technology which is why business travel is becoming more essential in our working lives. Over the last 36 months, we have experienced a significant rise in business customers staying in our 570 hotels. Today more than half of our sales are for business trips."

"It's good to see that Britons are also benefiting from taking regular business trips as it provides a break from the hectic hustle and bustle of family life and provides time to relax and have some much needed me time."

Further research findings revealed that four out of ten Britons (39 percent) reported that they love going away for work because they get to stay in a hotel. Forty cent reported they look forward to getting into a comfy luxurious bed whilst 42 per cent enjoy indulging into a full English breakfast. For 62 per cent of workers they relish the freedom of staying in a hotel so that can delve into a good book or watch their favourite move or TV programme without any disruptions.

The study also found that 41 percent of Britons workers who travel for work said they enjoy discovering new places and the same number said it breaks up their normal work routine.

Of those that work away regularly, 21 percent said it was a 'win win' situation as their partner loved having the house to themselves.

In fact, according to the study the perfect amount of time to spend away is five days a month. Nearly one in ten Britons also reported they don't enjoy jobs where there is no opportunity to work away.
