The upcoming hotel project pipeline in India is thriving and robust, according to information from the TOPHOTELCONSTRUCTION database, which shows that in the coming years the country is currently slated to welcome 202 new hospitality projects that will feature a total of 35,755 rooms for guests.

A rosy future

The future, meaning the year 2020 and those beyond it, is particular rosy for the hospitality industry in India. The TOPHOTELCONSTRUCTION database shows that for the year 2020 and beyond, there are at present 92 projects slated to make their debuts. As a point of comparison, consider that the year 2018 is currently projected to see 53 projects open up their doors while the year 2019 is headed for 45 new hospitality projects.

A lot luxury options

What is also noteworthy about all of this industry growth that is taking place in India, is that quite a bit of it is taking place within the five star hotel designation, which a total of 72 projects falling into that designation while 130 projects fall into the four star hotel category. In other words, there will be no shortage of options in the years to come for travelers who are looking for luxury during their visits to India, one of the most populous countries in the entire world.

Booming tourism industry

A large part of what is fueling this growth is, of course, a booming tourism industry in India, which is the smoke to the hospitality industry expansion's fire. In fact, according to information from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), India has been on a steady rise to tourism prominence dating all the way back to the year 2009, a rise that has continued as the country has moved into the sixth most popular on the planet for tourists and others looking for travel opportunities.

Foreign investments

What's also noteworthy about this growth trend is the role that has been played in it by foreign investments. The tourism and hospitality sector is among the top 10 sectors in India in terms of the highest Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). According to information from the country's Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), the hotel and tourism sector in India attracted roughly $9.2 billion of FDI between April 2000 and March 2016, which is likely to still be fueling the pipeline growth that is taking place today.
