The U.S. room construction total represented a 1.6% decrease compared with January 2017. Building on STR's report last month, the number of hotel rooms under construction in the U.S. has declined or remained flat year over year for four consecutive months.

  • October (-0.1%)

That decrease in December was the largest year-over-year room construction decrease in the U.S. since September 2011 (-7.8%).
