The pilot model of a capsule hotel, first one in the country, was unveiled in Tehran, on Sunday. The model was imported by the Touring and Automobile Club of the Islamic Republic of Iran.The pod hotels consist of long cube-like capsules with a built-in bed, TV screen, Wi-Fi access, and other amenities.The capsule is planned to be used in locations such as airports, passenger terminals, and railways as an affordable and short-stay accommodation for travellers in search of a good night's rest.Safety concerns in times of coronavirus were also addressed, as the Director of Touring and Automobile Club of Iran, Hossein Arbabi, said that "the biggest advantage is that it can be disinfected in a very, very short time, it can be disinfected in a matter of three minutes.""It is very safe and secure in terms of controlling diseases because it has a small space so that everyone can use it easily and comfortably," he added.At least 200 units will be set initially up in different cities, including Tehran, Mashhad, Isfahan, Shiraz and Tabriz, with the number topping 5,000 in two years' time.
