FHA-HoReCa At ConnecTechAsia Session 3: Technological innovation for Hospitality Sustainability Challenges The current pandemic has proved its catastrophic consequences on the entire service industry, particularly amongst tourism, hospitality and foodservice. According to IMF, lockdowns will lead to the largest decline in economic activity since 1933, with an unprecedented global growth fall in 2020 to -4.9 (a reduction from the -3% in April forecast). The hospitality industry will not go back to business as usual. This crisis is also an opportunity to reset the pillars of a renewed sustainable industry. Commitment to a long-term sustainable business model and innovation system is one of the best ways to mitigate future external crisis to the tourism value chain. Yet, the longstanding dynamics of the industry and the uncertainty around Coronavirus may have an impact on how hospitality companies will go to embrace the new principles and practices.Speaker: Carlos Martin-Rios, PHD, Associate Professor of Management, École Hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL)
