Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts is adding a new luxury hotel to its Chinese portfolio: Swissôtel Chengdu in Sichuan province. With hotels already operating successfully in Shanghai, Beijing, Foshan and Kunshan, Swissôtel Chengdu will be the fifth hotel in China for the international hotel chain of Swiss origin, and its first hotel in the west of the People's Republic.

Swissôtel Chengdu will be able to offer 380 elegantly appointed rooms each around 42 m2 in size, four high-class, contemporary restaurants and bars, and 10 conference rooms covering some 1500 m2 providing a venue for all types of events. A Pürovel Spa & Sport, extending over 1000 m2, invites guests to relax and unwind. "We are delighted to have signed the management contract with the Chengdu Senyu Industrial Group", commented Meinhard Huck, President Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts, "a professional partner for a high-quality hotel project in western China's financial centre. The phenomenal growth of the Chinese market means China is becoming increasingly important for us – the hotel is due to open at the end of 2014."

The forthcoming deluxe hotel is located in the south of Chengdu in Tianfu New Town, an urban development project which will focus primarily on the finance and technology sectors and international business. The district, once finished, is expected to attract around 1.4 million workers and 1.7 million inhabitants. Tianfu New Town covers an area of 205 km2 and is already home to 40 multinational firms and 820 companies financed with foreign capital. The area around the Swissôtel is crisscrossed with waterways and boasts elegant shops, restaurants, parks, residential accommodation, and a high-tech park, which attracts a large number of business travellers. The largest local venue for wedding receptions is also in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. Business travellers can reach the centre of Chengdu in 20 minutes, and Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is 10 km away.
