Swisscom wins the Gigaton Award in Durban
Swisscom received the international 2011 Gigaton Award in the telecommunications category earlier this month at the World Climate Summit in Durban. The prize is awarded every year by a jury composed of leading figures from business and science.
Swisscom was awarded the prize in recognition of its long-term, comprehensive efforts in the areas of sustainability and climate protection. Swisscom pursues ambitious goals for increasing energy efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions and covers all its power needs through renewable energy. The jury was especially impressed by Swisscom's achievements in the field of green Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Swisscom offers a broad range of green ICTsolutions that help companies and hoteliers reduce their power consumption and CO2 emissions by employing modern solutions such as connected TV technology or video conferencing, remote network management solutions and the procurement of IT services from energy-efficient data centers.
"We are delighted that Swisscom has won this award," says Kathrin Amacker, Member of Swisscom's Group Executive Board and Head of Corporate Responsibility. "It shows we are on the right path within the international arena. We will continue to strive to support our customers' efforts to save energy and CO2 by offering them further products and services."
