Horwath Hotels, Tourism and Leisure (HTL), the world oldest and largest hospitality consulting network, have this year become Premium Sponsors of the 12th German Arab Tourism Forum being held on Wednesday the 7th of March in Berlin. Ghorfa, the Arab-German Chamber of Commerce, hosts the Forum, which is being held at the ITB fair in Berlin. The event is held in co-operation with the Arab Tourism Organisation (ATO), the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and Messe Berlin.

One year after the beginning of the Arab Spring, the Forum will provide an excellent platform to exchange ideas and experiences on projects and perspectives of the tourism sector in Arab countries, especially in Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Jordan and the GCC States. More than 300 participants are expected to attend the Forum, among them high representatives of the Arab tourism sector as well as respected tourism experts and decision-makers. The forum will start with a session, moderated by Hannes Schied, Managing Director of Horwath HTL Dubai, presenting the influence of the Arab Spring on key performance indicators on the hospitality industry in the region. Distinguished panelists from several GCC states are discussing sustainable strategies for destination development, the competitive regional positioning and lucrative nice markets to capitalize on further growth in the UAE, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain.

The day continues with a panel looking at the ‘Roadmap to Recovery’ looking at how the tourism sector in countries affected by political upheaval can kick-start their tourism efforts. The second session, moderated by Ruediger Knospe, Managing Director of Horwath HTL Germany will examine Tunisia, how Egypt can restore its destination image, Jordan’s ongoing development to a multi faceted tourism destination and the roadmap to recovery - the tourism industry as a driver for job creation and economic development.

Hannes Schied said “We are delighted to be able to take part in this prestigious event at such a key time. We have many years of experience working in the region, and look forward to facilitating some interesting discussions on how these governments are creating opportunities out of change and what the current events mean for an area so blessed in natural tourism facilities. We would like to thank Ghorfa for the opportunity and look forward to a great co-operation”
