In 2017, it's safe to say that we're living in a digital age. Nowadays, travel is not viewed as a necessity, not a luxury. With 86% of Millennials travelling to experience a new culture, it is no surprise that travel is a top priority for this generation. Studies have indicated that Millennials are 23% more likely to travel abroad when compared with their older counterparts.

Additionally, Millennials are also willing to save more for their travels – they are estimated to spend $1.4 trillion on travel every year until 2020. Suffice to say, this generation are critically important to the travel industry.

It's essential that travel companies remember that compared to other generations, Millennials are not driven by the same travel needs. Millennials want to gain recognition, experience and value while they travel by saving, earning and learning. Millennials are looking for customized travel experiences, not simply packaged travel holidays.

Reaching and retaining Millennials will mean travel companies will have to appeal to each of their unique needs. Travel companies will have to find areas in which they can create shareable, valuable and unique travel experiences.
