Columbia Sussex, one of the largest Marriott franchisees in the country, is in the midst of an aggressive renovation program to at least 10 of its Marriott owned and operated properties. Today, it announces the completion of the first phase of a multi-million dollar renovation to Marriott Greensboro Downtown, which is focused on the transformation of the hotel's guest rooms and suites.
Located in the epicenter of the vibrant Greensboro downtown district, Marriott Greensboro Downtown serves as the only full-service hotel in Downtown Greensboro and offers a comfortable home base for enjoying the best of the city with luxurious amenities and contemporary, thoughtfully-designed spaces. The hotel sits just steps away from the new Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts scheduled to open in March 2020, providing ample parking and overnight accommodations for those visiting this highly-anticipated performing arts and entertainment destination, and it is also positioned among the city's best shopping, dining and nightlife, and is near popular attractions and destinations such as Greensboro Coliseum, Greensboro Science Center and Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Each of Columbia Sussex's Marriott renovations feature the new Marriott Hotel (MH) standards focusing on architectural aesthetic, thoughtful design and visual dimension that includes simple, yet strong, focal points. Drawing inspiration from Greensboro's rich history and dynamic metropolitan culture, Marriott Greensboro Downtown's renovation features a neutral, contemporary aesthetic interspersed with bright, colorful focal points.
Phase I: Guest Rooms
The cool and calming palette of gray, blue and purple hues provide contrast with the energetic metropolitan vibe at the hotel's doorstep. All 288 guest rooms, including junior, multi-bedroom and presidential suites, have been renovated to reflect this design philosophy combining a contrast of modern metal and wood tones. Contemporary finishes, sophisticated artwork and unique architectural touches reflect Marriott's modern aesthetic, which complement the contemporary urban setting in which the hotel is located.
Each luxurious guest room is designed for optimal rest and productivity with architectural framing, contrasting finishes and wall cladding, upscale bathroom fixtures, and thoughtful solutions to enhance a guest's stay, such as:
- Large temperature-controlled rooms with purposeful modern design features, including a sitting area with an oversized chair for enhanced comfort and a workspace featuring a desk, chair and convenient electrical outlet
- Small refrigerator for storing refreshments
- Convenient wall outlets, lamp outlets and nightstands outfitted with USB ports for multiple electronic devices
- LED flat-panel Smart TVs with premium cable and movie channels, as well as access to Netflix, Hulu, Pandora and YouTube to keep guests well-entertained (55-inch TVs in guest rooms, 65-inch TVs provided in suites)
- Strategically placed mirrors, including back-lit vanity mirror and full length mirrors
- Spacious bathrooms complete with tasteful designs and This Works amenities
Junior, multi-bedroom and presidential suites also offer the same aesthetics but on a grander scale with additional sleeping spaces and more room to host events or to simply spread out and unwind.
Phase II: Public and Meeting Spaces, Restaurants
Upon completion of Phase II of the renovation, guests will be greeted at arrival by a fully redesigned Greatroom lobby and front desk associates offering thoughtful service and seamless management of the check-in process.
Further into the inviting Greatroom lobby, guests can kickstart their vacations or unwind from a day of exploring Greensboro in the Greatroom Lobby Bar and Restaurant, which will feature comfortable nook seating and space to hold an informal meeting or unwind with a cocktail.
The lobby level will also feature the new M-Club with a well-appointed space to work, recharge, connect and relax with the convenience of food and snack options. Access to the M-Club will be available to Marriott Bonvoy premier guests and guests who have specifically booked an M-Club access guest room.
The hotel's more than 24,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor meeting spaces comprise 15 event rooms and 13 breakout rooms, with the largest space accommodating up to 750 guests cocktail style or 500 seated. Marriott's signature Greatroom on the lobby level will serve as a hub of activity for lounging, dining, meeting and connecting. As part of the hotel renovation, meeting spaces will be completely refreshed with new furnishings, modern A/V capabilities and technical offerings, and refreshed catering menus.
Finally, upon completion of the renovation's second phase, guests will be able to enjoy the amenities of the hotel's renovated fitness center, which will also be redesigned and will include a suite of cardio machines, weight lifting equipment and yoga accessories with generous natural lighting and energetic music. The fitness center will be upgraded entirely and continue to serve as a unique focal point of the hotel as it is partially housed in Greensboro's original firehouse, which is now integrated within the hotel's space.
