John Volponi Auberge Resorts Collection, owner and operator of boutique luxury hotels, resorts, residences and private clubs, announced today that John Volponi has been appointed General Manager of VieVage Los Cabos. This intimate resort located on the best beachfront stretch in Los Cabos will open in summer 2016 as the first property under Auberge’s new VieVage Hotels and Resorts lifestyle brand. Volponi brings vast experience in Los Cabos to this integral new role, having previously served as general manager of Capella Pedregal Resort, Cabo San Lucas. In his new position at VieVage Los Cabos, Volponi will oversee the management and operations of the new boutique luxury resort nestled within the 1,200-acre Chileno Bay master development, which is poised to bring a vibrant, new resort experience to Los Cabos. During his tenure as General Manager of Capella Pedregal, the luxury resort earned an AAA Five Diamond Award and was named Mexico’s top hotel of 2014 by Travel + Leisure. Volponi formerly served as Vice President of Rooms Operations for Capella Hotel Group where he worked closely with general managers, rooms operations managers and opening teams across the international portfolio, while prior to that he served as general manager to open Capella Telluride as the first Capella resort in the United States along with the adjacent Inn at Lost Creek. Volponi’s previous experience includes general manager positions at a collection of Orient-Express Hotels properties (now Belmond): The Inn at Perry Cabin in Maryland; La Samanna in St. Martin; and The Lodge at Vail in Colorado. He began his hospitality career with managerial positions at hotels from Princess Hotels International and Hyatt Hotels in Westlake Village, Calif., and at the historic Los Angeles Biltmore. Volponi holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of San Francisco and an associate’s degree in hotel and restaurant operation from City College of San Francisco.
