Joel Fagg has been appointed assistant director at University of Derby
Award-winning hotelier Joel Fagg has been appointed assistant director (operations) at the University of Derby in Buxton and Leek. Fagg will oversee the university’s Buxton campus at the Devonshire Dome, and the catering facilities and salon at Leek College of Further Education. A former Acorn Award winner, a judge of the awards for the last four years and a Springboard Ambassador, he was recently general manager of two Principal Hayley Hotels – Eastwood Hall and the Derbyshire hotel. Prior to that, he worked for the Hotel Collection from 2005 to 2014, spending the final two years as general manager of Buxton’s Palace hotel, where he increased wedding business by 28%. In his new role he will be expected to ensure the Dome’s commercial arm – including students organising and running major events in the private sector from weddings with 900 guests to banquets for corporate clients – continues not only its financial success, but also contributes to the undergraduate experience.
