Philip M. BarnesPhilip Barnes has been appointed regional vice-president and managing director of the Savoy hotel, replacing Kiaran Macdonald following his departure last month. Most recently, Barnes was regional vice-president for Fairmont Hotels Pacific Northwest and general manager at the Fairmont Pacific Rim in Vancouver. MacDonald was managing director of the Savoy for 10 years before leaving his role for a position as regional vice-president of Bermuda and the Caribbean, and general manager of sister property the Fairmont Southampton. Born, raised, and educated in the UK, Barnes will assume the role at the five red-AA-star, 267- bedroom hotel, and will lead the hotel's team in all aspects of the operation, guest services and owner relations. He has more than 40 years’ international experience in the hospitality industry and has been overseeing Fairmont properties in the Pacific Northwest and Middle East since 1998. Under his stewardship since 2011, Fairmont Pacific Rim has been recognised as the Best International Hotel for Business by Condé Nast Traveler magazine in 2014. He has also been a member of the Vancouver Board of Directors of Tourism and is the co-founder of Tourism Industry Partners Society, a charity established to support the financial needs of future generations of tourism professionals and schools.
