An economist and marketer, Dr. Jean-Pierre van der Rest is Associate Professor of Business Administration at Leiden University, Leiden Law School, Institute of Tax Law and Economics, Department of Business Studies. He holds a concurrent position as Deputy Head of Department, and previously served as Professor of Strategic Pricing & Revenue Management, Director for the research Centre, Interim Academic Director Masters Programme, Associate Dean (Education) and Head of Department at Hotelschool The Hague, Hospitality Business School. He received a PhD in Business from Oxford Brookes University (UK), a MA in Managerial Economics from the University of Durham (UK), and a BBA in Hotel Administration from the Maastricht Hotel Management School (NL). His areas of expertise include pricing and the analysis of business failure. A leading authority on the services industries, with a keen interest in hotel and restaurant business, Dr. Van der Rest is Associate Editor for the Cornell Hospitality Quarterly and for the International Journal of Revenue Management. He serves on seven international editorial boards, and his work is published in leading scholarly books and international journals. He has been external examiner, external advisor, chaired accreditations, and was visiting professor for various international business schools. He has taught in Bachelor, Master, MBA, and Executive Education programmes. Recipient of research grants and awards, he currently is visiting professor at the School of Economics, University of Rome, Tor Vergata.
