At least that is the rumour that has been swelling in recent days across the Atlantic. Indeed, Choice Hotels International would like to buy Wyndham Hotels & Resorts as part of an operation that would create an American budget hotel giant.

While discussions between the two hotel groups are at an early stage, it is not clear that Wyndham is interested in a tie-up with Choice. However, it is possible that Choice could make an offer directly to Wyndham's shareholders if the group refuses to consider a deal.

After expanding its presence in the high-end segment by acquiring Radisson Hotel Group Americas last summer, Choice is now looking to expand its economy and mid-range portfolio through the potential acquisition of Wyndham.

Like Choice, Wyndham is also expanding its upscale offerings. In 2021, Wyndham launched a luxury brand, Registry Collection Hotels, and late last year the company acquired Vienna House, doubling its upscale presence in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa.
