COLUMBIA, Md -- MICROS Systems, Inc. MCRS, a leading provider of information technology solutions for the hospitality industry, has formed a strategic equity partnership with Vivonet Inc., a web- based information systems company based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Under the terms of the agreement, MICROS will hold exclusive rights to global distribution of all Vivonet products throughout the hospitality industry and certain rights to the retail industry. By leveraging Vivonet's advanced Internet technology, MICROS will be able to offer point of sale, data warehousing, and business intelligence applications via the Internet for independent and chain restaurants. This new technology will be part of the solution family.

Through this partnership, MICROS will offer the first end-to-end point of sale and enterprise management system using the Internet to free operators from the burdens and costs of managing large in-house information systems. A powerful Consumer Response System collects product specific customer feedback and stores it in a data warehouse. Using this system, hospitality managers are able to extract real-time information, as well as make operations adjustments, from any web browser at any time. This capability benefits all types of hospitality companies, from independent restaurants to multi-chain enterprises.

"We are very excited about our partnership with Vivonet, as their technology plays a critical role in fulfilling our corporate strategy for client service and application delivery," stated Paul Armstrong, Executive Vice President of MICROS Systems. "We have taken a very pragmatic look at the Internet and rather than take a quick but inadequate route, we have chosen superior technology that will provide the smartest, most beneficial solutions for our customers. Vivonet's Enterprise Management System integrates the total functionality we were seeking and delivers it in a simple environment that will benefit our customers."

John Kirk, President and COO of Vivonet, said, "By teaming up with the worldwide leader in hospitality information systems, we are now in a position to extend the power of data warehousing to the broad hospitality market. By working under the guidance and support of MICROS, we are confident we can deliver great value on behalf of our customers. Our dynamic drill-down capabilities will allow MICROS customers to access information whenever they need it. Our goal is to reduce the "labor squeeze", deliver on the promise of effective and efficient multi-location support and allow our customers to better market penetrate through establishing ongoing communications with their customers."
