Singapore - Dr. Lo Ka Shui, GBS JP, Deputy Chairman and Managing Director of Great Eagle Holdings and Chairman of the Langham Hotels International Group was presented with the Asia Pacific Hotelier of 2004 award at today's 8th Asia Pacific Hotel Investment Conference held at the Ritz Carlton Millenia Singapore.

The prestigious award is a tribute to Dr. Lo's dedication, commitment and achievement to the hotel industry in the region and particularly Hong Kong. A cardiologist by training, Dr Lo, graduated in 1970 from McGill University in Canada, with B.Sc. in Biophysics, and in 1974 graduated from Cornell University with M.D.. On his return to Hong Kong, Dr. Lo joined the Board of Great Eagle Holdings in 1980.

Each year, the Asia Pacific Hotel Investment Conference honours an Asia Pacific Hotelier who has had the greatest impact on the region's hospitality industry. The Hotelier of the Year award was first presented at the 3rd Asia Pacific Hotel Investment Conference in 2000. This year's award a signature limited edition lead cristal piece entitled "The World is My Playground" depicts a pair of Chinese Dragon Fish, or Lungyu swimming through the waves. A mythical creature that overcomes obstacles until success is his, very apt words to describe this year's award recipient.

Dr. Lo was born in Hong Kong on February 19, 1947. He graduated in 1970 from McGill University in Canada, with B.Sc. in Biophysics, and in 1974 graduated from Cornell University with M.D.. Dr. Lo was trained and specialized in Internal Medicine and Cardiology, and did research in Nuclear Cardiology at the University of Michigan Hospital in USA until 1979.

On his return to Hong Kong, Dr. Lo joined the Board of Great Eagle Holdings in 1980 and is now the Deputy Chairman and Managing Director, and he is Chairman of the Langham Hotels International Group.

Dr. Lo is also a non-executive Director of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, Shanghai Industrial Holdings Limited, Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Limited, China Mobile (Hong Kong) Limited and some other publicly listed companies in Hong Kong.

He is a Vice President of The Real Estate Developers Association of Hong Kong, a Trustee of the Hong Kong Centre for Economic Research and a Member of the Airport Authority. He is also a Director of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, and was Chairman of the Main Board Listing Committee from 1992-1996. He was responsible for the development of the Growth Enterprise Market from 1998-1999 and was the founding Chairman of its Listing Committee from 1999 to 2003. Dr. Lo was also the immediate past Chairman of the Hospital Authority from 2000-2002.

Dr. Lo is married and has four children.
