  • By 2015, the former Kosmoshaus will be home to the 29th hotel of the leading Spanish hotel company in Germany
  • The Innside by Meliá brand has doubled its portfolio, with 11 hotels in the pipeline + 10 already open

Meliá Hotels International, the leading Spanish hotel company with more than 350 hotels in its portfolio, recently signed an agreement on its first hotel in Leipzig, which is planned to open its doors in late 2015.

Under the auspices of real estate developer KSW GmbH, the Kosmoshaus built in neoclassical style in 1853, will be converted into a 4-star superior hotel to be added to the "Innside by Meliá" design and lifestyle brand. Framed by the historical Kosmoshaus to the right and a modern bank building to the left, the new top-class hotel also includes a spectacular newly built part that comes with a highly modern front side consisting of twisted facades "bowing" before Leipzig's famous St. Thomas Church across the road.

Located close to the city centre and next to the hip quarter of Gottschedstrasse, the premium hotel will have153 lifestyle rooms and suites. The top floor of the new building will host an exclusively designed fine-dining restaurant. The roof of the old building is to include a modern skybar including an outdoor terrace providing an amazing view of the city and St. Thomas Church, the domain of Johann Sebastian Bach, that is illuminated at night. In addition, the Innside will provide a total of four meeting rooms spread across a 380 square-metre conference area, a spacious wellness area, as well as an underground car park.

The new Innside Leipzig perfectly reflects the Spanish market leader's expansion strategy on the second largest European market after Spain. Currently, Meliá International operates 22 hotels in Germany, under the brands Meliá Hotels & Resorts, TRYP by Wyndham and Innside by Meliá. The company has signed agreements for six additional hotels which will be operated under the Innside design brand in Aachen, Düsseldorf-Hafen, Essen, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Wolfsburg. Meliá International's first hotel in Leipzig will be its 29th hotel by 2015, and the 16th hotel managed under the both modern and urban Innside brand. Developed in Germany and taken over by Meliá Hotels in 2007, Innside by Meliá belongs to the 4 to 5-star segment. Regarding Innside, the Spanish hotel group is pursuing ambitious growth plans on an international scale. The two new hotels that started operations in Madrid in January 2013 are the brand's first hotels outside Germany. Further openings will follow in Barcelona, Copenhagen, Madrid, Manchester and Yogyakarta (Indonesia) by 2015.
