Concord Hospitality Continues to Go Green
The concept of "going green" is certainly not new, but for many companies in the hospitality industry, change has been slow. This has not been the case for Concord Hospitality, who jumped in with both feet back in 2010. From its participation in an impactful consumer-focused charitable initiative, to a variety of building-focused programs, Concord continues to be committed to positively impacting the environment, at home and abroad.
Clean the World
It all started in 2009 with an organization called Clean the World, a new social enterprise with the mission of saving lives around the world by distributing recycled soap and hygiene products from hotel partners to families in counties with a high death rate due to pneumonia and cholera.
Concord led the social responsibility charge and was one of the program's early adopters. Today, more than 96% of Concord's portfolio participates in the Clean the World program and together they have diverted more than 60 tons of waste away from landfills, created an estimated 500,000 bars of soap and saved more than 100,000 lives.
Concord extends its sustainability mission to its development projects. All new construction projects are designed, constructed, operated and maintained to meet the strict Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) guidelines.
Green Power Partnership Program
Several of Concord's properties are also members of the Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Partnership, a voluntary program that assists organizations with procuring electricity generated from renewable sources.
Green Hotel Global Program
All Concord hotels are registered with Green Hotels Global, a metric-based system that focuses on collecting information about the environmental footprint of hotels. This information is populated into an interactive software system that allows each property to quantify, reduce and report on its economic impact.
